A Historic Time for Bhakti Marga

Jai Gurudev dear family,

July will have a very tough time following up what was surely the greatest month in Bhakti Marga’s history! The opening of the incredible Bhutabhrteshwarnath Mandir, the 40th appearance day of our beloved Guruji, and another incredible Just Love Festival have passed, and now we begin our slow descent back down to planet Earth.

Reflecting on the incredible Jubilee of Love, what can we learn? First of all, we have seen what we can accomplish when we come together to manifest Guruji’s vision. The temple was planned by devotees, funded by devotees, constructed by devotees, painted by devotees and is now served in by devotees. It is our temple, built by our efforts, and it is BEAUTIFUL! Most importantly, Guruji is so happy to see it manifest. It is a place where more of us can now sit and express our love for God.

Secondly, the main deity is Bhutabhrteshwarnath Narasimha. Guruji changed His mind a few times before settling on this wonderful form of Ugra Narasimha. Why? Because the world needs His strong, yet loving, nature to re-balance itself. In Guruji’s own words, ‘Soft, soft is no longer working!’ So then let us be strong on our path of loving service, bringing it forward to new heights.

Guruji’s Appearance Day was just another opportunity for us to witness the ocean of Love that He pours out on us all. He put smiles on all our faces, joy in our hearts, got our feet dancing and our voices singing, and quite literally ‘rocked the boat’! But, my greatest take-away from the celebrations was just how united we all were as one big family under His loving wings.

And lastly, the Just Love Festival. Well, for me it is very simple. The Festival always reminds me of just how incredibly FUN our path of loving devotion really is. Simple, powerful and enjoyable beyond measure. We get to eat yummy prasad, party, sing, dance, and spend quality time in Satsang with all our friends, family and beloved Guruji. And, the best part is that not only is this not seen as a distraction to our spiritual efforts, it is actually EXACTLY what we are prescribed to do. We should never take for granted just how precious this Bhakti path truly is. And this leads me to my final point.

For the ten days that followed the end of the Just Love Festival, the Bhakti Marga Academy held a Bhagavad Gita training for all the Swamis and Swaminis. Very soon, we will have many more Bhagavad Gita courses held around the world, spreading this invaluable treasure to all of you. The Gita takes all this happiness, all this joy and beauty of bhakti that we experienced throughout the Jubilee and presents it to us in a systematic way so that we may realise our soul’s highest objective – the Love of Sriman Narayana.

Although the road is beautiful, we cannot ignore the challenges it brings. Life can be perilous, and life can be very difficult, but for the one with knowledge of the Gita, life’s challenges are transformed into life’s opportunities to grow. And, the greatest opportunity of all is the one to surrender at the Lotus Feet of Guruji. I hope you’ll grab Him with both hands and never let go.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda was present at the first Darshan of the deity, Bhutabhrteshwarnath.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda performed the first arati in the Bhutabhrteshwarnath Mandirafter the final Prana Pratishta ceremony concluded.

Directly outside of the new Mandir, Paramahamsa Vishwananda installed the deity of Sudarshana Narasimha.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda, with the attending priest, conducted a traditional procession around Shree Peetha Nilaya.

Jubilee of Love

The Jubilee of Love was truly an event to be remembered for all time. It was the biggest event in Bhakti Marga history, spanning 12 days of non-stop events and excitement. Devotees from around the world attended the four-day temple inauguration, took part in Guruji’s two-day birthday celebration and topped it all off with a 3-day non-stop party: the Just Love Festival.

One of the highlights of Guruji’s Appearance Day celebration was the 108 yagnas held simultaneously on the back lawn. Guruji led the ceremony from the newly built Yagna Chalet outside the new temple. Later in the evening the entire family gathered for a picnic on the lawn under the stars. The cruise down the Rhine River was another lively rock’n’rolling party celebrating our beloved Gurudev.

Once again, the Just Love Festival was a huge success. News of the festival is spreading far and wide; 800+ new people came to SPN and experienced Guruji for the first time. Visitors were so happy to experience the new temple, meet Gurudev and take part in the festivities, upon leaving most new guests said they will happily return again. Mark you calendars, the Just Love Festival will take place 12-14 July and is linked to Gurupurnima on 16 July.

THE CHOLA EMPIRE

The Chola dynasty was one of the longest-ruling dynasties in the history of southern India. The earliest datable references to this Tamil dynasty are in inscriptions from the 3rd century BCE left by Ashoka, of the Maurya Empire. As one of the Three Crowned Kings of Tamilakam, the dynasty continued to govern over varying territory until the 13th century CE. The heartland of the Cholas was the fertile valley of the Kaveri River, but they ruled a significantly larger area at the height of their power from the later half of the 9th century till the beginning of the 13th century. The whole country south of the Tungabhadra was united and held as one state for a period of two centuries and more.[2] Under Rajaraja Chola I and his successors Rajendra Chola I, Rajadhiraja Chola, Virarajendra Chola and Kulothunga Chola I the dynasty became a military, economic and cultural power in South Asia and South-East Asia.[3] The power of the new empire was proclaimed to the eastern world by the expedition to the Ganges which Rajendra Chola I undertook and by the naval raids on cities of the maritime empire of Srivijaya, as well as by the repeated embassies to China.[4] The Chola fleet represented the zenith of ancient Indian sea power. During the period 1010–1200, the Chola territories stretched from the islands of the Maldives in the south to as far north as the banks of the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh.[5] Rajaraja Chola conquered peninsular South India, annexed parts of which is now Sri Lanka and occupied the islands of the Maldives. Rajendra Chola sent a victorious expedition to North India that touched the river Ganges and defeated the Pala ruler of Pataliputra, Mahipala. He also successfully invaded cities of Srivijaya of Malaysia and Indonesia.[6] The Chola dynasty went into decline at the beginning of the 13th century with the rise of the Pandyan Dynasty, which ultimately caused their downfall.[7][8] The Cholas left a lasting legacy. Their patronage of Tamil literature and their zeal in the building of temples has resulted in some great works of Tamil literature and architecture.[3] The Chola kings were avid builders and envisioned the temples in their kingdoms not only as places of worship but also as centres of economic activity.[9][10] They pioneered a centralised form of government and established a disciplined bureaucracy. The Chola school of art spread to Southeast Asia and influenced the architecture and art of Southeast Asia.[11][12]
